Help Center Introduction to Reason The Redrum Drum Computer

This instrument works a lot like a drum machine if you have encountered one. The Redrum Drum Computer looks like this:

Redrum Drum Computer

Each channel allows you to take a sample and play it on the beats you select. To open a sample for the entire set, you click on the open folder in the bottom left of the Redrum console, but to choose specific samples to play for each channel, go to the top of the channel and click the folder and load the sample from the directory "xclusive drums-sorted" under the "Redrum Drum Kits" under the "Reason Factory Sound Bank" directory. Then you choose the sample you want to edit, you click on the Select button under the channel. You can preview the sound by clicking the play arrow at the top of the channel. Redrum gives the ability to edit the level, length, shape, pitch, tone and pan of the sounds. Once the sample sounds right, there are 4 major banks where you can have 8 different patterns, so you can make one pattern by drawing the beats out in the squares

Edit Pane

(orange is medium hit, red is a hard hit, and green is a soft hit). Then you can click on the "2" and make a different pattern for the sample to play. These patterns can be automated in the song to change during different parts. By clicking the "Run" button, the sound can be previewed.

Next we will discuss the timeline and recording.
