Create a Group
Groups are used throughout the Catalyst Web tools to provide tool access and allow collaboration with others.
To create a new Catalyst group, follow the steps below:

On the Group Manager Home page, click Create a group. You will move to the "Create a group" page (see figure at the right).
- Enter a name for the new group in the space provided. The group name must be unique, and should indicate to you who the members of the group are or remind you of the purpose of this group. When setting up Catalyst tools to use this group, you will be selecting the group from a menu by this name.
- Enter a description for this group in the text area provided. The description will be viewed only by you through Group Manager, and can be used to help remind you of the members or purpose of the group.
- If you would like this group to be automatically created and updated from
the class list of a course that you are teaching, select the course(s) or
section(s) from the list of "Courses you are teaching".
If you do not see the course you are teaching in this list, you may not be officially registered as the instructor. Please contact your program or department to make sure you are officially registered as the instructor for the course.You can attach multiple courses or sections to a single group. To view the usernames (UW NetIDs) of the students enrolled in your course, click View next to the course or section.Groups based on class lists are updated nightly with the latest information from the registrar. If a student needs access to a tool on the day that they register, you can add their username manually as described in step 5.
- Enter the usernames of any additional people you want to add to this group
in the "Other group members:" text area.
If you do not want to attach a course to this group, you can manually create the group by entering the usernames of the desired group members in the "Other group members:" text area, one per line.
Group Manager accepts usernames from the identity providers listed below in the following formats:Identity Provider Format of ID University of Washington uwnetid

username:pnNote: Even though they can be added to a group, users with ProtectNetwork IDs are only able to participate in or collaborate on Solstice-based Catalyst Web Tools -- namely Collect It, CommonView, GoPost, Group Manager, QuickPoll, ShareSpaces, UMail, and WebQ.
- Click Next to create your group.
