EWP & FIG Instructor Portfolio Guide
The Expository Writing Program (EWP) and Freshman Interest Group (FIG) Program both use Catalyst Portfolio and Portfolio Project Builder. Instructors in both programs use a scaffolded approach to teach students how to create electronic portfolios: they invite students to install a portfolio project, which provides a template for creating the portfolio. Once students install the portfolio project, they have complete control over their portfolios: they can customize the structure, contents, and style to suit their needs.
The links below provide step-by-step instructions on how to use Catalyst Portfolio Project Builder to build a portfolio project and distribute it to students. Since the links on this index jump between the general portfolio instructions and information specific to the approach used by the EWP and FIG program, be sure to use the back button to return to this index between each step. While this guide is intended to guide instructors through the process of using portfolio projects in an EWP or FIG course, it will also be useful for anyone wishing to gain familiarity with a scaffolded approach to using electronic portfolios.
