Collect It files are compressed onto a ZIP archive when downloaded. Once you have downloaded your Collect It submissions to your computer, you must extract the files to review the submissions.

Extracting files with Windows XP

Windows XP comes with software able to extract files from a ZIP archive. Follow the instructions below to extract your files:

  1. Find the file to extract on your computer.
  2. Right click on the ZIP file, and select Extract All.... The Extraction Wizard will appear.
  3. Click Next > to continue.
  4. Under "Files will be extracted to this directory," click Browse... and choose a location on your computer to which you want to save the files.
  5. When you have selected a place to save the files, click Next. The wizard will inform you when the the extracting process is complete.
  6. If you would like to view your extracted files, select Show extracted files, and click Finish.

Extracting files with Mac 10.4 or later

Mac OS 10.4 and later comes with software able to extract files from a ZIP archive. Follow the instructions below to extract your files:

  1. Find the file to extract on your computer.
  2. Press and hold the Control key and click the ZIP file, and select Open with... > Archive Utility (default). The extracting process will begin automatically.
  3. When the file has finished extracting, a file folder (if working with all submissions to the dropbox or all submissions to an assignment) or single file (if working with one participant's submission) will appear in the same location on your hard drive as the ZIP file you downloaded.
