Help Center WebQ Help Center View Results Reports

WebQ allows you to quickly view your survey or quiz results by participant and question. In addition, you can track survey participation to see which participants have started, viewed, or submitted the survey, and the date and time of submission. You may also view statistics, such as the mean or median for a question. Quick reports provide views of all results; to view results from a specific date range or participant, you may also create custom reports to filter your results.

View results by participant.

To view your survey or quiz results by participant:

  • On the "View Results" page, under "Online Reports," click View by participant. You will move to the "View Results by Participant" page.

This view groups responses by participant. Each table contains all the questions, and the participant's response to each question. Unless you created an anonymous research survey, you will also see the date and time each participant completed the survey at the upper right of the table, and the total time the participant took to complete the survey or quiz, from first access to last submission. In addition, the "by participant" view of your results may include:

Participant information: Depending on the security option you selected, more information about each participant may be available. To view participant information, such as the UW NetID, email address, and identification number of a participant, click the participant name or ID in the upper left corner of each set of results. A pop-up will appear that displays additional information. Click again to close the pop-up.

Quiz options: If these results are for a quiz, the correct answer you provided will be listed under each question, and the number of points earned out of the total possible will be listed in the right column. Long and short text responses require manual grading. Zero points will be assigned for these questions until they are graded.

If you make substantial changes to a question after a participant has completed the survey or quiz, another version of the question will be created and shown in the results. Results for the new (or modified) version of the question appear immediately before the original (or unmodified) question and its results. Learn more.

View results by question.

To view your survey or quiz results by question:

  • On the "View Results" page, under "Online Reports," click View by question. You will move to the "View Results by Question" page.

This view groups responses by question. Each table contains a question and lists all of the participants' responses to that question. In addition, the "by question" view of your results may include:

Participant information: Depending on the security option you selected, more information about each participant may be available. To view participant information, such as the UW NetID, email address, and identification number of a participant, click the participant name or ID in the upper left corner of each set of results. A pop-up will appear that displays additional information. Click again to close the pop-up.

Quiz options: If these results are for a quiz, the correct answer you provided will be listed under each question, and the number of points earned out of the total possible will be listed in the right column. Long and short text responses require manual grading. Zero points will be assigned for these questions until they are graded.

Modifying questions will cause a new version of the question to be created and shown in the results.

Track survey participation.

WebQ can track survey participation, showing you survey status – who has viewed or submitted the survey – and the date and time of submission. WebQ tracking also provides visualizations of survey participation in a pie chart and a line graph.

  • On the "View Results" page, under "Online Reports," click Track survey participation. You will move to the "Track Survey Participation" page.

On this page you can see percentage of submitted, viewed, and not viewed surveys; average time spent responding to the survey; and percentage of people who viewed but did not submit the survey. You can also filter survey results to a subset of the survey group or a subset of the survey period.

View statistics.

To view your survey or quiz statistics:

  • On the "View Results" page, under "Reports," click View statistics. You will move to the "View Statistics" page.

This view of your results groups responses by question, and displays simple statistics for each question. Each question has two areas that provide simple statistics:

Questions and answers: The table at the left lists the following information:

  • Question type
  • Question
  • Total responses - number of participants who provided an answer for this question
  • Did not respond - number of participants who did not provide an answer for the question
  • Numeric value - Value of answer choice used for calculating response statistics
  • Answers - all the answer choices for the question
  • Correct answer - indicated with check mark icon if applicable
  • Frequency - the number of times each answer choice was selected
  • Percentage - percent of total responses for this question that selected this answer choice

Response and Score statistics: The second (right-hand) table for each question lists some basic statistics for each question, including the mean, median, mode, minimum, maximum, and standard deviation. To conduct a more complete statistical analysis, we recommend that you download your results and analyze them in another program such as Excel or SPSS. Statistics are calculated as follows:

  • Response statistics: Response statistics are based on the numeric value of the answer choice and will provide the best information for questions using a Likert scale. These statistics do not include responses from participants who did not provide an answer, or to whom the question was not available. Depending on question and answer content and order, not all of the statistics provided will offer meaningful data. Long and short response questions only list the total response and number that did not respond, and do not have response statistics.
  • Score statistics: Score statistics, which appear only on quizzes, are calculated using the point value (which you assigned to the question on the "Build Quiz" page) and participant scores. If you change the point values of questions after you have received results, the statistics will be recalculated. Score statistics include responses from participants who did not provide an answer to the question. Long and short response questions will have score statistics based on points assigned through manual grading.
